The Danube Delta has a surface of approximately 175.000 ha covered in reed. As a resource, it has been used by villagers/people for thousands of years for feeding animals, in construction or for interior decorating. One of the most distinctive features of the houses in the Danube Delta – their roofs made out of reed. Harvesting reed has been acknowledged as one of the most widely spread occupations among the people of the Delta.
